Last Minute Outdoor Gift Ideas

The slow burning wick on the dynamite, also known as Xmas morning, is burning dangerously close.  I decided to follow up my gift guide for the cyclist with a gift guide for the outdoorsy person in your life.  There have been many others I have seen, but why not add to the smorgasbord.

Zoot Ultra XOTHERM Softshell Jacket

This jacket is simply amazing.  It has a great fit and is silky to the touch.  The jacket is windproof and water resistant with a warm lining.  The ultimate stretchy softshell, available in both Men’s and Women’s sizing.

Keen Hoodoo High Lace boots

I like these boots because they don’t look like the fluffy bright colored boots you see in all the stores. They are tastefully stylish, comfortable, and lined to keep your feet warm and dry.  Keen makes good products with a quality sole.  It doesn’t hurt that this boot won an award from Outside Magazine this year!.

Marquette Backcountry Skis

Ohhh, you are going to be excited when you discover these!  They are 30% snowshoe(they have built in skins on the bottom), 70% ski = fun times traipsing through the woods in the dead of winter.  They are also a recyclable material.  Perfect for that person who likes to keep it simple and go cruise around in the trees.

Nissan Thermos Tumbler

JMW500PCH6_enlargement

You will never regret the Nissan Thermos.  I love them so much I bought TWO of them.  It keeps your drink warm for over 5 hours, has a latch that closes so you can throw it upside down in your bag with NO leaking, and is easy to drink out of.  It’s so efficient that you might think it keeps your drink too warm! 16 oz capacity.  I like to take it hiking, or throw it in my commuter bag on my bike ride to work.

MD Winery Incognito Red

IR-08-site1

Red wine always makes a classy gift, or is essential to holiday parties!  Instead of randomly picking out a red with a pretty label, pick up a bottle of the Incognito by Michael David Winery.  Guaranteed to have your friends saying, “Wow, now THIS is amazing.”   It’s a blend of Rhone varietals: Syrah, Carignan, Cinsault, Tannat, Souzou, Cabernet Franc, Mouvedre, and Petite Sirah. The taste is peppery and earthy with a lingering mouthfeel of greatness.  I brought 4 bottles home to my parents for Xmas!

This glove has a windproof mitten cover that folds down and stows away in a compartment.  The gloves have a magnet to hold them together, and an ipod/iphone compatible thumb and forefinger.  The thumb even has an option to open so you can use your bare thumb if desired.  Oh yeah, and they also keep your hands warm.

Marmot Down Vest

Zeus for men, Venus for women, this vest is stylish and warm.  It also comes in several colors. It has 800 fill goose down and a great cut.  Perfect for a winter hike or to be stylin’ around town.

Garmin Etrex 20

Garmin makes some great products. This one is on my wish list too! Lightweight GPS ideal for hiking. It’s also great because it takes rechargeable batteries so if you’re in the backcountry for a long adventure and don’t have access to a wall outlet, you can carry batteries with you and use it worry free.

Pearl Izumi Barrier Convertible Jacket

This jacket is great for a cyclist or a runner because it’s packable, wind and water resistant, and the sleeves come off converting it to a vest.
