“Rando” Steve Romeo…Rest in Peace

Like me, you may not have met him, but you probably knew him: “Rando” Steve Romeo, creator/writer/czar-of-stoke and infamous captain of the TetonAT.com website. Steve died yesterday in an avalanche on Ranger Peak in Grand Teton National Park.

Rest in peace, friend

He and a friend, Chris Onufer, were buried in a large avalanche sometime Wednesday. Rangers began their search this morning, locating the avalanche by aircraft, then discovering two beacon signals. Further details here.

Sad. Just sad. It’s been a rough season, or maybe it just seems rougher than usual, based upon media hype…whatever the case, it’s a heartbreaker when somebody dies in the mountains, especially somebody whose work we all admired and really enjoyed. Thanks for the goods, Steve. I hope you’re somewhere safe.
