MTB AYITI 2014: Sonya’s Story

MTB Ayiti International Stage Race from Travelcology on Vimeo.

It’s been almost a year since I went to MTB Ayiti. It was the first mountain bike race in Haiti. Being at the inaugural event was more than just pedaling a bike. It was being a part of a culture and a place that people are afraid of. I was afraid to go to Haiti to the point where I almost flaked a couple days before boarding the plane. It was a unique and beautiful experience. I never felt in danger. What I found were mountains, people with pride and passion, and a joint project between the race organization and the Haitian government. The Ministry of Sport and Ministry of Tourism were heavily involved. Before the race, we participated in ecosystem building.

I’m planning do some some more things outside the box in 2014, how about you?
