Spring Break Escape: Tamarindo, Costa Rica

The bustling surf town Tamarindo, Costa Rica, defines the concept of spring break. With hot temperatures, rolling waves and the faint sound of Reggaeton music drifting through the streets, Tamarindo is certain to meet all spring break expectations.

EAT
After a long day of surfing and laying in the sun, nothing is more appealing than a nice, cold drink and a fresh meal. Bamboo Sushi Club in Tamarindo sticks to the theme of a laid back surfer town vibe, but offers guests upscale food at a reasonable price. This hot spot features two-for-one frozen mojitos (which are just as delicious as they sound), and fresh fish and sushi rolls daily. Make sure to try the Maruja rice bowl with fresh tuna or salmon, avocados, and ripe mangos. It’s basically paradise in a bowl.

SLEEP
Tamarindo offers travelers many different types of lodging such as youth hostels to five star hotels, but take the road less traveled and rent a house right on the beach. While there are plenty of amazing houses to rent, Casa Los Olivos at Playa Langosta, Tamarindo is pretty much perfect. The house is exactly 57 steps away from the beach and hidden in a forest of palm trees. It almost feels like a tree house, especially when the sound of the monkeys playing in the trees wakes you up in the morning. Since the house is situated on a more secluded beach, it is located outside of the bustling town, which provides guests with a quiet sanctuary.

PLAY
Ziplining, jet skiing, horseback riding, deep sea fishing, sunset snorkeling tours, the list goes on. Depending on the amount of time in Tamarindo, all activities are worth doing but if there’s a time crunch, Blue Dolphin Sailing tours is a must. The tour lasts between 5 to 6 hours and if you go in the afternoon, watching the sunset out on the water is pretty unforgettable. The company does tours on both sailboats and catamarans, so if you get sea sick, make sure to bring some antiemetics because the ride is bumpy. The tours also includes an open bar, a traditional meal served on board and water activities that range from snorkeling to kayaking.
