Q & A – Meet EO’s New Account Executive Ben Young

EO: What brought you to the EO Team?
BY: The magazine is fantastic and inspires readers to get out and enjoy the world around them, what’s not to like?

EO: Where is your ultimate favorite place to Go Outside and Play?
BY: Oh man, this is a tough one. Colorado probably wins with Golden Gate Canyon and all the little places I can hike or fly fish and not see a hundred other people on the trails. I’m from Massachusetts though, and there are a couple of places up the coast north of Boston that I used to kayak in and find my moment of zen that are still really special to me. Going to have to go with the Golden Gate Canyon for this one!

EO: If you were stranded on a desert island and could bring along 3 items, what would they be?
BY: Guitar, a good book and fly rod. If escape is an option, then I’d take a guitar along with a kayak and paddle, because ain’t no desert island gonna hold me back.

EO: Favorite outdoor activity?
BY: I really dig hiking. It isn’t the most “extreme” activity, but it gets you to some really beautiful places and can be done pretty much any time. I haven’t had many chances to get out and kayak recently, but it’s definitely another huge passion for me.

EO: Favorite outdoor brands?
BY: Osprey, Marmot, Arc’teryx and Asolo have all made a “must-have” piece of gear in my eyes since I started in outdoor retail, and they’re all cool companies working hard to innovate in their fields. Hard to pick a favorite!

EO: Favorite band?
BY: Wilco and Radiohead historically, but I’ve been listening to a lot of Mac Demarco and Future Islands recently.

EO: Favorite beer?
BY: Stone Brewing’s Arrogant Bastard and Magic Hat Number 9 have always been go-to beers for me, but locally I love BRU’s 5290 Saison and Upslope’s Imperial IPA a ton.

EO: Last place you camped out?
BY: Poudre Canyon!

EO: Favorite outdoor athlete and why?
BY: I think Jimmy Chin is really awesome and down to earth. His photography constantly inspires me to get outdoors.

EO: You’re lost in the woods. You…
BY: Freak out and wonder how I got here in the first place. Then pull out the GPS. Or make friends with the nearest bear, depending on how near the bear is.

EO: Tell us a fun fact we should all know about you.
BY: I am a musician!
