Photo Gallery: Climbing the North Cascades Golden Horn

We recently journeyed to the Pacific Northwest to meet the folks at Mountain Safety Research and do some hiking and climbing on their home turf in North Cascades National Park and the Washington State section of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). In between long days on the trail and testing some of the new products coming out of MSR for next year, we managed to bag the 58th highest peak in the state, Golden Horn. This dicey class 4/5.4 ascent was just the right amount of exposure requiring some rope work but totally doable for the whole group. In fact, we set a record by placing 10 people on top of the peak — a precarious perch indeed.

Here’s a look at the trip by photographer, writer, and former Transworld Snowboarding editor Ben Gavelda. Follow him at @bengavelda.
