Ivy Baldwin Highline to be Recreated!

This Saturday, October 15—day after tomorrow—the Action Committee for Eldo, Eldorado Canyon State Park, and Slackline Industries will join forces to recreate the Ivy Baldwin highline.

Baldwin performed in the first half of the 20th century, when Eldo was a posh resort and tourists flocked from Denver to swim, dine, and for a short while, hang in the dining hall to dance and cavort. For nearly 50 years, a taut steel cable spanned the distance (over 500 feet in length and several hundred feet off the ground) between the Wind Tower and the Bastille rock formations. Baldwin, who originally ran away from home in Texas to join the circus—walked the cable periodically, without a safety tether.

Slackline Industries’ Taylor VanAllen will walk a slackline spanning the same distance, while onlookers hit taco trucks, play games, and enjoy Eldo’s inimitable ambience. Tickets are available at celebrateeldo.brownpapertickets.com and all proceeds benefit trail building in Eldorado Canyon State Park.

We’re going—you should, too! A free shuttle will move people between the canyon and the “dirt lot,” or the Park ‘n’ Ride opposite the Eldo Market, at the intersection of Highways 93 and 170. Parking will be limited so ride your bike, hike over, or take the shuttle. The event begins at 10 a.m. and concludes at 2 p.m.
