Upslope Brewing Co. Releases Boozy Sazerac Style Rye Ale

Can’t decide whether to order a cocktail or a beer at happy hour this week? Order up a pint of Upslope’s newly released Sazerac Style Rye Ale and you’ll get both. Volume 17, and the latest installment in the Boulder-based brewery’s Lee Hill Series, is an ode to the classic New Orleans cocktail. Bold and delicate flavors crash together in this copper-hued brew which achieves its Sazerac inspired taste during nine months of aging in Leopold Bros. Absinthe and Maryland-Style Rye Whiskey barrels. Strong notes of licorice and fennel hit the nose before mellowing on the first sip, only to return along with sweet notes from orange blossom honey on the finish. At an ABV of 10.8 percent, this boozy beer is ripe for the sipping.

“As brewers dedicated to this craft, we’re fortunate and proud to be able to display our creativity through limited release brews,” said Upslope’s head brewer, Sam Scruby. “Like its 16 predecessors, Lee Hill Volume 17 is very unique, and we hope for it to be a cellar keepsake for Upslope fans and craft beer lovers everywhere.”

The limited release beer will be available at both of Upslope’s Colorado taprooms starting on September 27, and sold in 19.2 ounce cans for $10 each while supplies last.

Upslope’s Sazerac Style Rye Ale joins a growing trend of booze-inspired craft beer by Colorado breweries. Earlier this week, New Belgium released a bourbon-inspired Oakspire Bourbon Barrel Ale — a special collaboration between the Fort Collins brewery and Knob Creek.
