Q & A – Meet EO’s New Publisher Casey Vandenoever

We’re stoked to introduce the newest addition to the Elevation Outdoors team! Meet Casey Vandenoever: our new publisher, an avid mountain biking enthusiast and aficionado of brown ales. Vandenoever comes to us with a 15-year history of working in sales in the media world and he spent the past five years working within the software industry. His lengthy resume includes sales and management positions at Outside magazine, Santa Fe Weekly, Boulder County Business Report (BizWest), and SKI and Skiing magazines. “I’m a dedicated family man with a lovely wife, and two kids that I keep busy (or they keep me busy rather) with an active lifestyle,” he says. “We love to mountain bike, road bike, snowboard, hike, SUP and swim.”

Elevation Outdoors: What is your favorite outdoor activity and why?
Casey Vandenoever: Mountain biking. It gets me outdoors and into great shape. It’s the perfect way to start your day or end your day. It just puts me in a better frame of mind.

EO: Where’s your favorite place to go outside and play?
CV: I’m lucky enough to live in Boulder, Colorado, where there are many places to get outside right out of the front door — from hitting the many routes around town on my road bike, to hiking around the Flatirons, to mountain biking nearby at Betasso, Heil, and Hall ranches. If I have to get in the car I often head to southern Colorado and the Salida and Buena Vista area, as well as Telluride and Ouray.

EO: Tell us about the best advice you’ve ever been given.
CV: Always look ahead!

EO: What is your favorite go-to piece of gear?
CV: Wow, too many to mention here. I’m always carrying my Yeti 15-ounce mug, HydraFlask water bottle and any baseball cap I can find that morning.

EO: It’s apres time, which Colorado crafted beer are you reaching for?
CV: In the winter either Telluride’s Face Down Brown or Upslope’s Oatmeal Stout. In the summer,  I’m reaching for a cold Post, Top Rope or an Upslope Citra Pale Ale.

EO: Tell us about the most epic adventure you’ve ever been on.
CV: Skinning up and snowboarding down three peaks in the Pacific Northwest (Ring of Fire): MountRainier, Mount St. Helens and Mount Adams within one week.

EO: What’s your favorite thing about living in Colorado?
CV: The Weather; no matter what it throws at you, it ends up being sunny

EO: What brought you to the EO team?
CV: The opportunity to work with such a fun, adventurous and hard-working team that produces one of the best publications to help readers learn, dream about and be a part of the great outdoors.

EO: Tell us a fun fact we should all know about you.
CV: One of my favorite movies which I can watch over and over is “The Fifth Element”… and, of course, “Blade Runner.”
