Postcards from the Weekend: Hiking Mt Missouri

Mt. Missouri is located just outside Leadville and is surrounded by a host of other fourteeners, notably Belford and Oxford. It’s also one of the most rewarding fourteeners to climb. The trail starts out with some steep switchbacks which means you get out of tree line quickly and into the stunning valley that leads into Mt. Missouri. The fairly mild class two route takes you up through the approach and then switchbacks up until you get to the ridge line. You’re then heavily rewarded for your efforts by a long walk along Missouri’s ridge with panoramic views everywhere you look.
