Movement Climbing + Fitness filled to the brim with eager fans.

Last night, the town of Boulder came out in force to watch the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) Lead World Cup Competition.

This was the first IFSC Lead World Cup comp held in the U.S. since it hit Snowbird, Utah in the late 80s.

Movement Climbing and Fitness was packed with over 1,000 people and the energy was palpable as the supportive and boisterous Boulder crowd witnessed some of the finest sport climbers in the world push their limits on extremely challenging routes. So challenging, in fact, that not one competitor of the final 16 actually made it to the top.

Despite that, the climbing was awesome. Each competitor attacked their task with composure, grace and power.  Austrians ended up bringing home the gold in both the men and women’s division. Jakob Shubert, a six time champ led the men’s field while Johanna Ernst calmly finessed her way  higher than any other woman. All in all – a really inspirational night and a proud time for the climbing community of Boulder. If you missed the madness, here are a couple short videos of the winners and some other pics.
