Holiday Gift Guide-Wines for the Times

Wine seems to make everything just a little better. Family, friends, and festivities seem to take on a special glow after a glass, or two of vino. Maybe that is why it seems everyone shows up to holiday get togethers with a gift bag containing a bottle of wine for the host. It’s a universal thank you card accepted in most parts of the world. So if you are looking for that perfect bottle to drop off at the neighbors, or a wine club gift for someone special, here are a few of our favorite suggestions for this holiday season.

Bottles
Charles-and-Charles-2013-Cabernet-Blend-LO-Res-Front-Label--300x200Washington State is a lesser known wine growing region than its larger cousin to the south, yet it constantly produces some excellent wines that would cost considerably more if they were grown in California. The Cabernet/Syrah blend from winemakers Charles and Charles is a full-bodied red with hints of blackberries, and currants. It is priced between $11-$15 in most stores and is sure to bring smiles all around.

downloadEven though the Gilbert family of Yakima Valley has been making wines for only ten-years that is no reason to short change the juice they are producing. Drawing grapes from seven different vineyards they are able to hone in on the best each location has to offer. Their 2013 “Left Bank” Red is a Bordeaux blend with the big flavors one would expect. It’s priced between $20-$25 in most stores and is a killer value.
