EXPEDITION ANDES: Something to Live For
In less than a month, Elevation Outdoors contributors Pete Takeda and Mick Follari leave for a trip to the Andes.
Their trip is funded out-of-pocket. Their goal is to climb the as yet unclimbed South Face of Santa Cruz. The story comes with some built-in drama. In 2012, an accident on Santa Cruz nearly killed Takeda, ending their attempt. The pair has been planning a rematch. After years of Himalayan and Andean expeditions, they’re accustomed to high risk. But this time around, the stakes are higher. The reason: Mick recently discovered he’s going to be a father.
The pair hope to create a film exploring how an extreme climber handles mortal risk after learning he’s going to be a father. It’s an untold part of the climbing game. To fund the production, the pair have turned to Kickstarter. Takeda will author an article in the July-August issue of Elevation Outdoors on how to fund a project using this growing technique of crowd funding.
Let’s try to make their film a reality. To help them raise the funding, visit: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/160723316/expedition-andes-something-to-live-for
