What You Need for Sleep Under the Stars Night (8/8/2020)

This year, Eddie Bauer registered August 8 as Global Sleep Under The Stars Night with the National Day Calendar. In honor of the company’s 100th Anniversary, they excitedly invited the public to “come together in experiencing the beauty of the outdoors by spending the night under the stars” in a recent press release announcing the new National Day.

While our country is still in the midst of a global pandemic, the company encourages participants to practice safe camping, whether in a backcountry or backyard campsite. So to help you celebrate (wherever you set up camp), here are some of our favorite Eddie Bauer items and other camping gear to take along for the inaugural Global Sleep Under the Stars Night!

Eddie Bauer Flying Squirrel 40 Degree Sleeping Bag

The Flying Squirrel 40 degree sleeping bag is roomy, super cozy and filled with 850 fill StormDown insulation – which is also certified under the Responsible Down Standard. It features a zipper-free opening, is ultra-packable and has become one of the most comfortable sleeping bags my kids try to steal from me on summer nights!

HEST Sleep System

Are you ready to take your sleeping pad to the next level? The Hest Sleep System works in tents, truck beds and even in the back of my old Subaru Outback! This two-layer system features a high-performance polyfoam top and inflatable base layer for some of the most comfortable nights spent camping. Singles can be combined into an ultra-cozy double camping bed and each Hest Sleep System features a phone pocket and rugged carry bag for take-anywhere portability when it comes to car camping. Down side: your kids (and dogs) will claim it as their own.

Thermarest Compressible Pillow

One of our favorite pillows – we might own at least a half dozen – is the Thermarest Compressible Pillow. It’s easy to roll and stash in a duffle bag but decompresses quickly for a cozy night of sleep. I also appreciate the upcycle features with foam sourced from upcycled foam from the company’s pad manufacturing and the cover is made from ultra-soft polyester made from mostly recycled materials.

Big Agnes Salt Creek SL3

One of the most popular Big Agnes Tents, the Salt Creek SL series features double side doors, a front vestibule and plenty of room for a family of three. It’s packed with features – including media pockets and internal gear loops – and is quick to set up and light enough to take into the backcountry but just as great for the backyard camp out.

Petzl Headlamps

There are a lot of lighting options out there, but my kids are sold on the Petzl TIKKID headlamp. It’s easily adjustable and super comfortable around their growing noggins. This headlamp is 20 lumens at the highest mode and features a phosphorescent reflector to make it easy-to-find in the dark. For the adults out there, check out Tikka which features three white light options and a red light to save your night vision.

Yeti Trailhead Camp Chair

Our family has lounged comfortably in the Yeti Trailhead Camp Chair in our backyard, along riverside sites and high country campsites over 11,000 feet. It’s portable, thanks to the backpack style carry case, easy to setup and includes a detachable beverage holder. If the little ones tend to start battles of who gets what camp chair, pick up the kid-sized Helinox Chair One Mini.

Eddie Bauer Bygone Backpack Cooler

The 20L Bygone Backpack Cooler can carry an iced 12-pack of your favorite beverage from the car to your campsite – or kitchen to the backyard. It also features a front sleeve, internal zipper pocket and two side bottle pockets that fit 16oz Klean Kanteen Insulated TKPro bottles perfectly! Did someone say fire-side mixed drinks?

Eddie Bauer Women’s Leggings

I have not met a pair of Eddie Bauer leggings I have not loved! From the standard Trail Tight Leggings and capri styles to the Movement Lux High-Rise Legging, they are the epitome of all-day comfort from sipping camp coffee in the morning to afternoon day hikes to evening campfire lounging sessions.

Wild Zora Breakfast, Snacks & Dinner

Looking for a quick breakfast, snack and dinner options for the overnight escape? Wild Zora offers delicious Instant Grain-Free Cereals for breakfast, Meat & Veggie Bars for any-time snacking and Paleo Meals to Go for dinner. I thought I was their biggest fan until our kids tried them! Our favorites include the blueberry cereal, apple/pork bar and Caldera Curry Chicken dinner.

MSR PocketRock Deluxe Stove Kit

If there is one stove I trust over most, it’s an MSR stove. The PocketRocket Deluxe Stove Kit keeps camp cooking simple and efficient. The latest version is no different. I appreciate the never-failing, push-start igniter, compact size and fast boiling time. Our family has made coffee, breakfast, and dinner on this little stove, without fail! I tend to bring a second PocketRocket along to with their Pika 1L Teapot to have double boiling potential.
