Application Deadline for Copp-Dash Inspire Award Approaching

Climbing teams need to get their applications together quickly because the deadline for the $20,000 Copp-Dash Inspire Award is approaching at the end of February. The revered award was established in part to help memorialize and remember American climbers Jonny Copp and Micah Dash, killed in an avalanche in China in May 2009, along with filmmaker Wade Johnson.

The award is specifically to fund small climbing teams attempting difficult climbs and to help them document their ascents and adventures and share their stories with the world. The grant provides financial assistance and multimedia instruction allowing climbers to become filmmakers, photographers, and storytellers through a mix of mediums before, during and following the expedition.

Applications are accepted from January 1, 2012 through February 29, 2012. This is the third annual Inspire Awards and this year sponsors are providing $20,000 in grants and support to North American applicants demonstrating the greatest style and purpose in their climbing objectives and in their lives–the same way that Copp and Dash lived theirs.

Primary sponsors are Black Diamond, Patagonia, La Sportiva, and Mountain HardWear. Supporters include the Adventure Film Festival, Alpinist Magazine, the American Alpine Club, and Sender Films.

To apply, go to www.coppdashinspireaward.com or find The-Jonny-Copp-Foundation on Facebook. Eligible teams must be from North America with expeditions occurring between April 2012 and March 2013. Winners will be announced by March 30, 2012.
