Adventure Film Festival – This Weekend!

Snow is flying and that means backcountry skiing, ice climbing, total chaos on highway 36…and the seventh annual Adventure Film Fest! This weekend, November 3-5, the Boulder Theater and Patagonia host one of the raddest collections of films telling the stories of freakshow athletes, part-time ethnographers, eco-conscious visionaries, and everybody in between. If last year is any indication, these three days will be chock full of adventure, inspiration, good people and incredible tales.

Without leaving Boulder, you’ll learn about the extinction crisis, conquer new routes in Chad, hike Long’s Peak with a team of military vets, huck off snow-covered cliffs, kayak in the Congo and explore threats facing our very own Colorado River.

And, that’s just for starters. The 40 films chosen will take you on journeys to far-away lands, let you experience pain and recovery and may tempt you to try things you never previously considered…

Like so many good ideas, Adventure Film began with notes scribbled on tiny bits of scratch paper. Confined to his tent during a Himalayan storm, Jonny Copp outlined his vision for a community based, mission oriented film festival that linked art with activism. Since its inception in 2004, Adventure Film has evolved into this and much more thanks to the tireless efforts of the Copp Family and their power-packed team. The festival has garnered international acclaim and boasts countless award-winning films each year, but it has still managed to maintain a grassroots feel.  I realized last year during my foray into Adventure Film that this is more than just your average film festival – it’s an event dedicated to building community, moving audiences, honoring artists and celebrating the power of stories to change us and change the world….Definitely, not to be missed.

So, start channeling your inner couch potato and come relax while watching other people scale mountains and save the world. There will still be tons left to do when you get back out there on Sunday and I guarantee you’ll leave energized, refreshed and ready to make some more of your own legends.

If you’d rather preview some stuff and try to do a surgical strike, then check out the trailer.
