The May Issue of Elevation Outdoors is Live!

The annual Elevation Outdoors Festival Guide is landing on doorsteps statewide this week, and we couldn’t be more excited about this big-daddy of all Elevation Outdoors issues. The annual May Festival Guide is your summer planner, giving you  our picks the best of music, sports and cultural festivals in Colorado and beyond.

And while we hope you’ll be able to pick up your free copy at a specialty outdoor retailer or other distribution partner near you, here’s a little digital sneak peak around the project we’ve been putting together for you these last few months.

Inside, you’ll find a call to action from our editor-in-chief Doug Schnitzspahn to help free Tibet — not just in light of the recent tragedy on Everest, but in the name of human rights everywhere.

There’s a play-by-play run down of everything from the cool vibe of Blues and Brews in Telluride to yoga poses and EMD at Sonic Bloom to the rush of the GoPro Mountain Games. Plus, we offer up the best in new festival gear including Ticla’s  inflatable sun shade, Juil’s tingly sandals, Sierra Designs’ Backcountry Bed and more. We also run down some names you may not know yet—the best new bands to catch at the season’s festivals. And Boulder yogi Matt Kapinus, who will be teaching at Arise, gives you a list of do’s and don’ts for your first yoga festival. If that’s not enough, we list some funky festivals, too. Headless Chicken days anyone?

Beyond the planner, Jason Blevins writes on the $50-million destruction of Lyons parks in last fall’s floods, and how local legends Oskar Blues, Planet Bluegrass and The Lyons Outdoor Games are pitching in to rebuild the town. Desert rat Ian Reid takes his 13-year-old son for his first big backpack trip in the labyrinths of Utah’s canyon country. Cameron Martindell hikes Euro-style in Estes Perk. We offer up GPS coordinates and a free download for the Hardscrabble Ultra Marathon. Peter Kray complains about the stink of Patchouli. And legendary climber Conrad Anker talks about the complexities of fighting climate change.

Now get clicking! But be careful…this may be our hottest issue to date!
