Italian Cycle Style

No, we’re not talking about who is shaving what or who is drinking Lambrusco during their rides. We’re talking GranFondo, the Italian obsession of long, challenging rides through spectacular scenery. The point of a GranFondo is to finish, making it a ride, not a race, by nature. Although it is timed, because in Italy, most everything is all about bragging rights.

Last year, Levi Leipheimer brought the first GranFondo to the U.S., in Santa Rosa, California. It sold out, and the Tour de France cyclist plans to repeat the ride this year on October 9th. Coloradoans will soon be in on the fun, as two organizations have GranFondo rides planned this year:

June 20: Vail, 80-mile SuperCorsa. superfondousa.com

July 17-18: Boulder, 100-mile GranFoundo. centurioncycling.com

October 3: Boulder, 64-mile SuperFondo. superfondousa.com
