Think you look suave in your retro one-piece and wraparound shades? Think again. On March 1–5, 2009, the first annual Aspen Fashion Week will sweep through the resort. As soon as the lifts close, runway models will be striding down red carpets laid out in Aspen’s chic-est shops, galleries and luxury boutiques, strutting next season’s hottest fashions. This Sundance-meets-Paris fashion gala will showcase everything the hippest and hottest will be wearing on the slopes or while lounging après-ski.

More than 15 designers from across the globe will present their Winter 2009/2010 collections to fashion buyers, media, glitterati and enthusiasts from around the world at nightly fashion events, in-store presentations, après-ski soirees and VIP events. And yes, designers will be on hand to provide private audience to a select few.

“Winter sports and resorts attract 6 million of the most affluent, influential and athletic consumers in America, and while more and more leading designers are catering to this A-list group, until now there have been no flagship fashion events to reflect this trend,” says Lisa Johnson, an avid skier and fashion enthusiast and former vice president of the Aspen Chamber Resort Association. “With Aspen’s status as the king of ski resorts and winter culture, Aspen Fashion Week is ideally suited to be an important stop on the annual fashion week circuit.” Think you fit the bill—affluent, influential, athletic—or just interested in rubbing elbows with those who are? You’ll have to wait.  The inaugural event is closed to the general public this year, but will open to the masses in 2010.
