Gear Review | Kari Traa Baselayer

As the summer sunsets fade and lend to early evenings with dipping temperatures, it’s hard to miss the sense of winter approaching. For some, it may be a bittersweet ending to the starry nights and sunny summits of a weekend camping trip, but to others, the brisk chill in the air is a welcome change. As warm weather days are numbered, the calendar rolls into serious countdown mode for the first snowfall in the mountains. Winter is coming, and skiers across Colorado and the Rocky Mountain Region are getting ready.

In order to be fully prepared for the ski season this year, it’s best to take some time to check on your gear. Any holes that need patched, skis that need waxed, some new snowboard boot laces—is it ever too early to get ready for the coming season? I’m here to help you consider some additional base layer options brought to you by a new Active Brands line by Kari Traa. Kari Traa happens to be Scandinavia’s #1 base layer brand for women and Europe’s fastest growing sports brand for women. The product was brought to North America last fall, but 2016 promises nearly triple the amount of retailers who will carry the successful brand for women—thanks in part to the company’s top-selling merino wool base long-sleeve.

The Kari Traa baselayer’s specs include 100% merino wool, jacquard knit, 4-way stretch, and slim fit. It’s soft against the skin, breathable and naturally odor-resistant. The feminine cut and classy design is featured in a zip-up, hoodie style or pants.

Not only does the base layer provide warmth and comfort while hitting the slopes, it also forms well to the body and allows for flexibility during your ski workout.

If you recognize the Kari Traa name, you’re not alone. Kari Traa is an Olympic gold medalist in freestyle and mogul skiing. Originally form Voss, Norway, Traa had a phenomenal 17-year career, where she won 37 World Cup competitions and four World Cup championship gold medals. When she wasn’t training hard for her competitions, Traa took to knitting beanies and headbands for herself and friends in her free time. The Kari Traa brand officially began in 2002, and quickly became the fastest-growing women’s sports brand in Scandinavia. The brand went international in 2006 and rose to be a top-seller across Europe. But what really makes this brand stand out, it its commitment to inspire young girls to encompass a happy, healthy and strong lifestyle with functional sportswear. Designed and developed for women by women, the brand delivers in its simplicity of design but dedication to function.

Kari Traa continues to help grow the sport she loves by recruiting and developing girls on the Kari Traa Ski Team. The Kari Traa brand also boasts a team of women ambassadors to showcase the versatile products and to spread the powerful message of female athleticism around the world. With the right gear – there’s no reason not to get outside and get that body moving!

The new office and showroom of Active Brands & Kari Traa in the United States is located in Broomfield, Colorado.
