I’ve been nearly erased on the slopes by boarders and skiers not paying attention. I love music, too; but can’t we just enjoy the outdoors while on the Mt.?

I prefer to listen to the sounds of nature or chat with friends. But each to his/her own. If someone enjoys their outdoor experience more with tunes…why not.

Skiing/Riding with tunes defeats the purpose. The best part of being in the mountains is the sounds of nature. It’s also dangerous to yourself and others at times. I’ve witnessed many a clueless iPod wearer on the hill. Fortunately, I’m aware of them, even if they aren’t aware of me.

For snowboarding or mountain biking/downhilling, no for me. The faster things are coming at me, the more elevated (no marketing pun intended) I want my senses to me. I’ve tried it, doesn’t work for me.

However, trail running and road biking are a different story. I’d be lost without my music. Because I’m not 6’1 and 130 lbs, I don’t really have the ideal build for running or being a roadie. Both can become VERY tedious and I don’t want to shave my legs. If my (literal) batteries die while I’m running, I just go home – in fact, I think of running as more listening to music first, then getting my exercise. Road biking isn’t quite so bad but long climbs are easier to crank out when you’re zoned out on some good tunes.

Also, since I’m a tech nerd, I never Ipod at all – my digital music players are all free from big brother Apple :)

i enjoy both listening to tunes and not, both are completely appealing, even on the same day/ride. I use an I Home 2 go cycler for all my cycling applications. Raced with it for the last three years, super fun. Nice to jam to music and hear what’s going on at the same time.
It does kill me though, when some people listen to their music and completely forget where they are and walk in the middle or even worse the wrong side of the bike path!? WTF anyway, just pay attention and be curtious, cause we’re all out there for the same reason, to have fun and apparently its good for u too!!

Music is one of the great components of life. We all enjoy the entertainment, tapping into feelings and experiences brought up by certain songs. Manytimes music empowers and motivates us. Listening to truelly creative talents that produce quality music it enhances the quality of life. When I go out in nature or exercise I don’t listen to music. I find that deeper and greater expereince that feeds my soul. I sink into the zen, the here and now. Here is the essence of who I am, a spiritual expression interwoven in nature. If you listen to music, I understand why, maybe someday you may want to experiment and find a deeper connection with nature. Quiet the mind and discover your own path.

I enjoy music often but, not always. It really depends on my mood & the situation. And, most often, I have the earbuds hanging near, not IN my ears so as to be able to hear what else is going on around me. & sometimes I even forget to turn it on….. I’ve been more distracted by what’s on my mind than whether or not I have tunes going.
I truly think the issue is not music per se, but rather folks not paying attention! And then there’s that basic lack of consideration that happens sometimes….they know you’re out there too, they just don’t care about anything, or anyone else, but what they’re experiencing….
